Choose based on whether you need Matomo’s depth and control or prefer a smaller dashboard with less to operate.
When quietstats may fit
quietstats may fit when the goal is a clear view of site traffic and campaigns without maintaining an analytics server or configuring a large suite.
- Hosted service; no server installation or database administration for the customer.
- No analytics cookies or device storage; raw IP addresses and user agents are not stored.
- Traditional reports, AI referrals, alerts, goals, campaigns and a small free plan with GBP upgrades.
When Matomo Analytics may fit
Matomo may be the better fit if you need data ownership through self-hosting, its broader reporting and customization, or features outside quietstats’ scope. Matomo documents privacy-focused configurations, but notes that legal treatment and metric effects depend on configuration and location.

The trade-off to understand
quietstats does not have Matomo’s heatmaps, session recordings, A/B testing, tag manager or self-hosted deployment. It is not suitable when those are requirements, and it does not import Matomo history.
Moving from Matomo Analytics
quietstats has no Matomo history importer. If switching, retain Matomo exports and document the date you begin the new dataset. Do not compare the first quietstats counts with Matomo as if the underlying visitor definitions and configuration were identical.

Can Matomo run without cookies?
Matomo documents privacy-focused configurations, but settings, metrics and legal requirements differ. Its own guidance notes that some configurations reduce unique-visitor accuracy and that laws vary by country.
Is quietstats self-hostable?
No. Matomo offers On-Premise; quietstats is hosted.
Will quietstats replace session replay or heatmaps?
No. Those are outside the current quietstats feature set.
