What it does

Under the weekday × hour heatmap, a Best times panel answers the questions the heatmap raises: your busiest three hours, your busiest and quietest day, the single busiest hour of the week, your quietest three hours (a good window for updates or maintenance), how much traffic comes at weekends, and a suggested time to publish.

Why it matters

Sending a newsletter, posting on social media or shipping a big change goes better when you know when your readers are around, and when they are not.

How to use it

  1. Find Best times under the When they visit heatmap (it needs 50 pageviews in the range).
  2. Read your busiest 3 hours and day, the quietest window, the weekend share and the suggested time to publish.
  3. Check your site’s time zone under Sites → ⚙ Manage, and click a page to see best times for that page only.

How it works

How Best times are picked1. Start from the When they visit heatmap: pageviews per weekday and hour, in your site’s time zone. 2. Add up every 3-hour window (they can run past midnight) and pick the busiest and the quietest. 3. Find the busiest weekday and the single busiest hour of the week. 4. Weekend share is compared with an even spread: 2 of 7 days, about 29%. 5. Suggested time to publish: one hour before the busiest window, on the busiest weekday.1Start from the When they visit heatmap: pageviewsper weekday and hour, in your site’s time zone.2Add up every 3-hour window (they can run pastmidnight) and pick the busiest and the quietest.3Find the busiest weekday and the single busiesthour of the week.4Weekend share is compared with an even spread: 2of 7 days, about 29%.5Suggested time to publish: one hour before thebusiest window, on the busiest weekday.
From the best-times code. It reads only the heatmap totals the dashboard already has.
