What it does

A Forecast card under the trend chart: visitors expected over the next 7 and 14 days, a likely range for each, whether traffic is trending up or down per week, your busiest and quietest weekday, and a chart that carries the last four weeks forward as a dashed line with a shaded range. A table lists the forecast day by day.

Why it matters

Planning a launch, a sale or a newsletter is easier when you know what a normal week looks like. The forecast also makes a real change obvious: if a week lands well outside the shaded range, something happened.

How to use it

  1. Pick a range that runs up to today with at least 10 full days of data (30 days works well).
  2. Read the Forecast card: visitors expected over the next 7 and 14 days, the likely range, and whether the trend is up or down.
  3. Filter the dashboard (a page, source or country) and the forecast follows the filter.

How it works

How the traffic forecast is worked out1. Take up to the last 56 full days of daily visitors since tracking started. Today is left out because it isn’t finished. 2. Weekday pattern: each weekday’s average ÷ the overall average, pulled towards 1 when there are only a few weeks. 3. Fit a straight trend line through the weekday-adjusted days, then damp it by half so one good week doesn’t run away. 4. Forecast day = trend × that weekday’s factor, for the next 14 days. 5. Likely range = ±1.28 × the typical miss, so about 8 in 10 past days fell inside it. 6. The Forecast card shows the next 7 and 14 days, the range and the weekly trend.1Take up to the last 56 full days of daily visitorssince tracking started. Questions

Is it machine learning?

No. It is a short, published formula (weekday pattern plus a damped straight-line trend), so you can check every number. It is a guide, not a promise.

Does it work with filters?

Yes. Filter the dashboard by a page, source or country and the forecast follows that filter.
