What it does

A Videos card on your dashboard: every video with its plays and the share of plays that reached 25%, 50%, 75% and the end, plus a bar chart for your most-played video showing where people stop watching.

Why it matters

A product demo or explainer only works if people watch it. Knowing that half of viewers stop before the halfway point tells you to shorten it or put the key message first.

How to use it

  1. Open your dashboard, find Videos and open How to set it up.
  2. Copy the video.js line (your site ID is filled in) and paste it next to your quietstats tag. Optionally name each video with data-qs-video="Product demo".
  3. Read plays and the 25%, 50%, 75% and End columns for each video, then the bars to see where people stop watching. Add an event goal for Video progress to use it in funnels.
HTML
<script data-host="https://quietstats.co.uk" data-site="YOUR_SITE_ID" data-dnt="true" src="https://quietstats.co.uk/js/video.js" async defer></script>

Replace YOUR_SITE_ID with the ID shown on your site’s Manage page.

How it works

How video plays and progress are counted1. The optional video.js add-on listens to play, time and end events of HTML5 videos on the page. 2. First play of a video in a page view: Video played, with its name (data-qs-video, title, label or file name). 3. Playback first passes 25%, 50%, 75% and the end (97% for loops): Video progress with “name › 25%” and so on. (otherwise: No seek positions, timings or history) 4. Each point counts once per video per page view and is stored as a daily event with the page. 5. The Videos card shows plays, the share reaching each point, and where most people stop.1The optional video.js add-onlistens to play, time and endevents of HTML5 videos on thepage.2First play of a video in apage view: Video played, withits name (data-qs-video,title, label or file name).3Playback first passes 25%,50%, 75% and the end (97% forloops): Video progress with“name › 25%” and so on.No seekpositions, timings orhistory4Each point counts once pervideo per page view and isstored as a daily event withthe page.5The Videos card shows plays, the share reaching each point, and where most people stop.

Questions

Can I use a finished video as a goal?

Yes. Add an event goal for “Video progress” to count every milestone, or track plays with “Video played”.

Does it work with autoplaying or looping videos?

Yes. Autoplay counts as a play once it starts, and looping videos count the end once at 97% so a loop is never counted twice.

Does it slow my video down?

No. It only listens to the play and time events the browser already fires, and sends at most five tiny requests per video per page view.
