What it is

A Copies and shares card on your dashboard: for each page, how many times people copied from it and how many times they pressed a share link or button, plus which networks they shared to.

Why it matters

A page that people copy from or share is doing its job, even if they never click anything else. It shows which tutorials, quotes and offers are worth keeping or passing on, so you can write more of them.

How it works

  1. Add the small share.js add-on next to your quietstats tag (it sends no pageviews).
  2. When someone copies from the page, it counts one copy as code (inside a code block) or text. What was copied is never read.
  3. Presses of share links to X, Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Reddit, Telegram, Bluesky, Threads, Pinterest or email, buttons you mark with data-qs-share, and the phone share sheet count as shares.
  4. Other link clicks are not counted, and each page view sends at most 10 copies and shares.

Set it up

HTML
<script data-host="https://quietstats.co.uk" data-site="YOUR_SITE_ID" data-dnt="true" src="https://quietstats.co.uk/js/share.js" async defer></script>

Replace YOUR_SITE_ID with the ID on your site’s settings page. Install guides →

Privacy: what is and isn’t collected

Collected

  • Copy kind (text, code or your button name), share network or button name, page path, day
  • Never the copied text, never who copied or shared

Never collected

  • Cookies, localStorage or anything else stored on the visitor’s device
  • IP addresses or user agents (used in memory, then discarded)
  • Anything that links a visitor across days (the visitor ID resets daily)

Rows and limits

  • Optional add-on: script.js stays 845 bytes
  • Share widgets inside iframes (some third-party share bars) cannot be seen; mark your own buttons with data-qs-share
  • Copy buttons that write to the clipboard in code need data-qs-copy to be counted
  • Not affected by dashboard filters
  • Rows: up to 10 per page view, usually 0

“Rows” are database rows written, which is what our hosting is billed on. Reads are not rows written. Methodology →

Questions

Do you see what people copy?

No. The add-on never reads the selection or the clipboard. It only records that a copy happened, and whether it was inside a code block.

Can I make a share a goal?

Yes. Add an event goal for “Shared” or “Copied”.

Does it track where people go after sharing?

No. It counts the press of a share link on your page, nothing after it.
