Uptime checks for your site

We check your homepage every 10 minutes and show availability, how fast it answered and any downtime next to your traffic.

What it does

An Uptime checks card on your dashboard: up or down right now, availability for the range, average answer time, approximate minutes down and the days with downtime. Each change to down or back up lands in your alerts.

Why it matters

A sudden drop in visitors is often not your content: the site was down. Seeing outages next to your traffic explains the dip, and the alert tells you while it is happening.

How to use it

  1. Go to Sites → Manage for the site and choose Turn uptime checks on.
  2. Within 10 minutes the Uptime checks card appears on your dashboard. Compare its days with downtime with dips on your traffic chart.
  3. When the site goes down (two failed checks in a row) or comes back, an alert appears in Alerts.

How it works

How an uptime check works1. You switch checks on for a site. Every 10 minutes the scheduled job requests https://your-domain/ once. 2. A 2xx or 3xx answer within 8 seconds = this check passed. Anything else, or no answer = failed. 3. Two failed checks in a row = down. One blip never counts. (otherwise: Homepage only; no visitor data) 4. Each change to down or back up adds one alert to your alerts inbox (emails are off). 5. One state row per site, one counts row per site per day: checks, failures, time to answer, down checks. 6. The dashboard card shows state, availability, average answer time and days with downtime.1You switch checks on for asite. From the sitechecks.js code. About 288 small row writes per site per day while switched on.

Questions

Does this count as a visit?

No. Our checker never runs the tracking script and identifies itself in its user agent, so it never appears in your stats.

Can I check other pages?

Not yet: only the homepage.

Does it cost extra?

No. It is on every plan.
