What it does

A Speed budgets card under Page speed: each budget with its target, the last 7 days from real visitors and whether it is within or over. Add one in a few seconds; a daily check adds an alert to your inbox when a budget is missed.

Why it matters

A new image carousel or a heavy script can make every page slower without anyone noticing. A budget turns “the site feels slow” into an alert on the day it starts, with the number that changed.

How to use it

  1. Make sure the page-speed add-on is on (see the Page speed guide). The Speed budgets card sits under the Page speed card.
  2. Pick a metric, leave Pages empty for the whole site or type a path such as /blog/, and enter a target: 2.5 s, 200 ms, 0.1, or 10% for a page group.
  3. Read ✓ Within or ✗ Over for the last 7 days. When a budget is missed, an alert appears in Alerts the next morning.

How it works

How a speed budget is checked1. The page-speed add-on already stores daily totals: LCP, INP and CLS bucket counts, and poor counts per page. 2. You add a budget: whole site (75th percentile under a target) or a page group like /blog/ (share of poor loads under a %). 3. Every day: work out the last 7 days from those totals. Fewer than 20 measurements = not judged yet. (otherwise: No single visit is read) 4. Within → over: one alert in your inbox (emails off). Still over the next day: no repeat. 5. Questions

What targets should I start with?

Google’s “good” limits: LCP 2.5 s, INP 200 ms, CLS 0.1 for the whole site.

Why a share of poor loads for page groups?

Per-page totals keep how many loads were poor rather than a full spread, so a share is exact while a percentile would be a guess.

Will I get an alert every day while over budget?

No. One alert when it goes over; another only if it recovers and goes over again.
